The size of the value chain of steel and aluminium in a country is a true reflection of its industrial level, since generally the processing of steel and aluminium coils takes place close to the consumption points, that is, production plants generally associated with sectors such as Automotive, Household appliances, construction, naval, etc.
Sometimes the main actor regarding the solution of challenges to society is to be found in the raw materials themselves, and the steel and aluminium sector is a clear example of global innovation with its developments: Steels with special features, new alloys, pre-painted, new anti-corrosion coatings and anti-fingerprints, among others, allow the development of much more advanced everyday and industrial products: cars, batteries, household appliances, boats, bridges…
But the sector itself is also under pressure from global overcapacity and legislative pressures related to the environment, which is why, apart from innovating in its product, work lines aimed at improving processes and productive means are also being promoted.
KONIKER makes available to the steel and aluminium industry its knowledge in the development of levelling, cutting, profiling and forming processes, as well as productive means to work with these new materials, all aligned with the application of new technologies within the industry 4.0 paradigm
Among KONIKER’s research lines, we can highlight those that allow the processing of materials for different industrial sectors and that check their industrial behaviour prior to being launched on the market. Among the most representative processes, the following could be highlighted:
- Profiling
- Conventional levelling and levelling under tension
- Folding
- Cutting
- The forming of high elastic limit steels and aluminium
- Hot forming of special alloys
- Process control
- Automation and handling
